Objection Handling & Example Chats
The proven WhatsApp sales motion — how to take a lead from first message to proposal sent. Copy the tone, steal the lines, close more.
Where this comes from: we scanned all 6,925 conversations in [company name]' account and reverse-engineered exactly how they sell. The method and the phrasing below are from their real playbook. The 15 example chats are realistic scenarios modelled on that approach — not real customers' private messages (those hold personal data and aren't ours to share). Use them as templates.
The method (why it works)
Every proposal comes from the same motion. Facebook lead → WhatsApp → human chat → OpenSolar 3-option quote emailed. WhatsApp is where the selling happens; the proposal lives in OpenSolar.
- Lead with proof. UK-based specialist, strong reviews, honest & efficient. Drop a case study / your own install.
- Qualify in one message: address · email · current usage (kWh + p/kWh) · roof photos or the sale advert · extras (EV charger, heat pump, power-cut backup).
- Radical honesty = trust. Talk them out of things that aren't worth it — it makes everything else believable. ([company name]: "Hot water diverters are a thing of the past… you'll never see that money back. I'm just being honest.")
- Use your own numbers. "I've got 32p at my house — was £600pm, now £200, and that includes 2 EV charges so no petrol either."
- Give a ballpark on the spot. No gatekeeping — rough itemised pricing builds trust and momentum.
- Anchor on the premium brands. Push Sig (Sigenergy) and Tesla — "the best by far", expandable, best warranty. Use Hanchu as the budget anchor and steer up from it.
- The proposal: "I'll send some options over via email which show the returns." → OpenSolar link, 3 options. Then: "3 quotes sent over — check your email, one link, 3 options inside."
- Always follow up: "How did the quote look?"
Objection bank — quick answers
How much does it cost / can you give me a rough price?
Give a transparent ballpark straight away: "Rough ballpark for a 10kWh in-roof system is around £8,500, +£800 per extra 5kWh battery, EV charger ~£600 — but I'll send you 3 proper options by email with the returns so you can see it clearly."
Never gatekeep the price. Anchor, then move them to the OpenSolar proposal.
It's expensive / that's a lot of money.
Reframe on ROI, not cost: "Totally get it — but look at it as replacing a bill, not adding one. Export payments cover a big chunk of winter, and the system pays itself back and then keeps paying you. The proposal shows the exact returns."
Do I really need a battery / hot water diverter / [upsell]?
Be honest — including talking them out of it: "Honestly? A hot water diverter isn't worth it — immersion heaters are ~£700 fitted and you'll never see it back. I'd put that money into more battery instead."
Honesty here is the whole trust play. It makes your recommendations land.
Which brand is best / what kit do you use?
"Sig (Sigenergy) is the best by far — expandable storage, brilliant warranty. Tesla's excellent too. We do offer cheaper (Hanchu) but honestly we rarely fit it — it's a weaker product, I'd steer you to Sig or Tesla."
I've had a cheaper quote elsewhere.
"Happy to look at it with you. Cheaper usually means budget panels/inverter or a thinner warranty — my job is to make sure you're comparing like for like. Send it over and I'll be straight with you."
Does solar even work in winter / up north?
"It generates all year — less in deep winter, but the battery + export payments carry you. I'm [local] myself and mine's been brilliant. The proposal shows month-by-month so you'll see it."
I need to speak to my partner first.
"100% — it's a joint decision. Let me get the 3 options over by email so you've both got everything in front of you, then we grab 10 mins on Zoom together. What works this week?"
Get the proposal out anyway, then book the joint Zoom.
I'm just researching / not ready yet.
"No pressure at all — let me send the free no-obligation options so you've got real numbers for when you are ready. Costs you nothing and beats guessing."
Can I pay monthly / is there finance?
"Yes — there are finance options and I'll show them in the proposal alongside the cash price, so you can see the monthly and the total side by side."
Never give regulated credit advice — just introduce the options through the approved process.
15 example chats — lead to proposal sent
Each shows a different scenario ending in the OpenSolar proposal being emailed. Grey = the lead, green = you.
1The straightforward keen lead
Textbook motion — qualify, ballpark, proposal.
LeadHi, I'd like a quote for solar please
YouHi I'm [name] from Eco2NW — a real person, not a bot We're UK solar & battery specialists, 5 rated. Can I grab a few quick details? Your address, email, roughly what you pay per month, and a photo of the roof (or the Rightmove/estate-agent link)?
Lead[address], pay about £180/month, here's a photo
YouNow that's a nice roof Plenty of space. Any interest in an EV charger or power-cut backup while we're at it?
LeadMaybe an EV charger yeah
YouPerfect. Ballpark you're looking around £8,500 for a 10kWh in-roof system, EV charger ~£600. I'll send 3 proper options over email with the returns so you can see it properly — that ok?
LeadYes please
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
You3 quotes sent over One link, 3 options inside the software with the ROI. Have a look and tell me how it looks!
3Price-first ("just tell me how much")
Give the ballpark, don't gatekeep, then move to the proposal.
LeadJust roughly how much am I looking at?
YouNo problem, I never hide the price Rough ballpark: 10kWh in-roof system ~£8,500, each extra 5kWh battery ~£800, EV charger ~£600. To give you the exact figure + the returns, what's your address, email and rough usage?
LeadOk that's fine — [details]
YouPerfect, leave it with me — 3 tailored options coming to your email today.
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
4Wants battery + EV charger (upsell)
Anchor premium (Sig/Tesla), size the battery right.
LeadI want solar, a big battery and an EV charger
YouLove it — that's the full setup For a proper battery I'd point you at Sig (Sigenergy) or Tesla — expandable, best warranties, genuinely the best out there. What's your daily usage / EV mileage so I size the battery right?
LeadFairly high, work from home, do ~150 miles/week
YouThen a bigger battery earns its keep for you. I'll build 3 options — good / better / best — around Sig and Tesla so you can see the step-up. Address + email?
Lead[details]
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
5Tricky / shaded roof
Turn a worry into a reason to trust you.
LeadMy roof gets shade from a big tree, is it even worth it?
YouGood question — shade matters, but we design around it with optimisers so shaded panels don't drag the rest down. Send me a photo and I'll be honest about what your roof can realistically do
Lead[photo]
YouThat's very workable — south-facing section is great, we'd add optimisers on the shaded side. I'll send options showing the realistic generation so there's no over-promising. Email + address?
Lead[details]
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
6"Just researching, not ready"
Free no-obligation numbers > nothing. Get the proposal out.
LeadOnly really researching at the minute tbh
YouTotally fair — smart to research Let me send you free, no-obligation numbers so when you are ready you're working off real figures not guesses. Costs nothing. Address + email + rough bill?
LeadYeah go on, can't hurt — [details]
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
YouSent Have a browse whenever — I'll check in in a few days, no pressure at all.
7Already has a competitor quote
Be the straight-talker who checks like-for-like.
LeadI've already got a quote for £6,500
YouNice — worth comparing properly though. Cheaper often means budget panels/inverter or a thinner warranty. Send it over and I'll be totally straight about whether it's actually like-for-like
Lead[shares quote]
YouThanks — that's a smaller battery and a budget inverter. I'll send you 3 options incl. a matched one and a Sig/Tesla step-up so you can see the difference for yourself. Email?
Lead[email]
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
8"Does solar work in winter?"
Own-install proof + month-by-month in the proposal.
LeadDoes it actually generate much in winter up here?
YouIt generates all year — less in deep winter, but the battery + export payments carry you through. I'm local and mine's been brilliant honestly. The proposal breaks it down month-by-month so you'll see exactly what to expect
LeadOk that's reassuring
You Address, email and rough usage and I'll get those numbers over.
Lead[details]
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
9Battery-only / retrofit (already has panels)
Different product, same motion.
LeadI've already got panels, just want to add a battery
YouNice one — retrofitting a battery is a great move, you'll store the daytime generation instead of exporting it cheap. What panels/inverter have you got now, and roughly your usage?
Lead[details]
YouPerfect — I'd look at Sig or Tesla for a retrofit, they play nicely with most setups. I'll send a couple of battery options with payback figures. Email?
Lead[email]
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, options emailed
10High bills, big system
Match the ambition, show the big saving.
LeadOur bills are mad — nearly £400 a month
YouOuch That's exactly where solar + a decent battery pays off fastest. Mine went £600→£200 incl. 2 EV charges. For your usage I'd size it properly with Sig/Tesla so you're covering as much as possible. Address + email + a roof photo?
Lead[details]
YouLeave it with me — 3 options with the returns, you'll see the dent it makes in that £400.
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
11Asks about warranty & brands
Confident brand steer — up to Sig/Tesla.
LeadWhat kit do you use and what's the warranty like?
YouFor batteries, Sig (Sigenergy) is the best by far — expandable and a brilliant warranty; Tesla's excellent too. We can do cheaper (Hanchu) but I'll be honest, we rarely fit it — weaker product, I'd steer you to Sig or Tesla. Panels are tier-1 with strong warranties across the board.
LeadSounds good, send me some options
YouOn it — 3 options so you can see budget vs Sig vs Tesla side by side. Address + email?
Lead[details]
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
12"Need to ask my partner"
Send the proposal anyway, then book the joint Zoom.
LeadI'll need to run it past my wife first
You100%, it's a joint decision Let me get the 3 options over by email so you've both got everything in front of you — then we grab 10 mins on Zoom together and I'll answer anything. What works this week?
LeadMaybe Thursday eve
YouThursday it is — I'll send a booking link. Options coming to your email now so you can both have a look before.
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed + Zoom booked
13Flat / unusual roof
Reassure with the right kit, don't over-promise.
LeadBit of an odd one — my roof's flat
YouNo problem at all — flat roofs are common, we use ballasted/angled mounts so the panels sit at the perfect tilt. Often you can fit more than a pitched roof! Send a photo and I'll size it up
Lead[photo]
YouGreat space there. I'll factor the flat-roof kit into the options so the price is honest, not a surprise later. Email + address?
Lead[details]
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, 3 options, emailed
14Wants to pay monthly (finance)
Show cash + monthly side by side; no regulated advice.
LeadCan I spread the cost monthly?
YouYes — there are finance options and I'll show them right next to the cash price in the proposal, so you can see the monthly and the total together and pick what suits. Address + email + rough bill?
Lead[details]
YouPerfect — for a lot of people the monthly is close to what they already pay the grid, just building an asset instead. Sending the options now.
Proposal sent — OpenSolar link, cash + finance options, emailed
15Went quiet, then re-engaged
Light, no-pressure nudge that revives the lead.
YouHey [name] — no rush at all, just checking you got everything you needed to get the ball rolling? Happy to answer anything
LeadSorry, been manic! Yeah still interested actually
YouNo worries at all, life happens Want me to put fresh options together so you've got up-to-date numbers? Quick recap of your address + rough usage and I'll fire them over.
